A friend of mine was sharing his opinions of Reaganomics, and even though it was not flattering, and frankly I believe that he was wrong on his assessment, his conclusion applies today, as it applied in the eighties.
When he lost his job, he was forced to use his creative genius, and improvise. He was forced to come up with a new market paradigm. He grabbed a few friends and provided cheap specialized labor, thus, making money on an economic downturn.
Today, we have a similar situation. The usual paradigms are being challenged by the economy. Our Nation has being challenged by outside forces, and we have been dealing with them as they arise.
The terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001, the war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq, the devastation of Florida due to a hurricane, the further devastation of the Gulf of Mexico area (Mississippi and Louisiana) as a result of Katrina. And now, in 2008, we see the results of greedy politicians, that lined their pockets with lobbyist moneys, while a few years back, they proclaimed that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were working fine with no troubles at all, under the directions of a “gentleman” who made over $90 million dollars, while cooking the books in order to receive the multi million dollars bonuses.
This same “gentleman” currently advises one of our candidates for President on economics. His name is Franklin Raines and is an Obama advisor. That to me is scary.
Quoting Former President Clinton, it is those same unscrupulous politicians that hurry up to point fingers who “ignored” the former President’s and Senator McCain’s warnings and attempts to regulate the housing industry.
Today you see those same politicians on TV congratulating themselves on a job well done passing an $800 plus billion dollars bill, that has done nothing to fix the problem that they themselves created.
Our Nation has gone through similar situations in the past, and have survived, and thrived.
The bottom line is simple. Because of the effort of previous generations, we grew complacent. You even have politicians talking about jobs that the American people will not do. I have seeing teenagers stating that they would never get a job at Burger King because that was beneath them. Television reality shows glorify stupid behavior (giving a Jaguar to a 16 year old girl, teenagers saying that they would kill themselves if rejected by a popular kid or do not receive the car that they wanted for their birthdays, dozens of otherwise good looking young women cheapening themselves in order to get the attention of someone with a huge clock as a necklace). This parade of stupidity and greed could not continue indefinitely. So, our economy finally said: enough.
Both candidates for President advocate change; and we do need change. The change we need is a change in attitude. Instead of allowing our politicians to play with our emotions, and give us some esoteric mumbo jumbo that they themselves do not believe or understand, we need to make sure that we analyze the candidates policies, and elect the one that can create the most jobs. We need the candidate who will allow our Nation to become energy independent by drilling for oil where the oil actually is, in the Outer Continental Shelf, in ANWR, in the Dakotas, etc. while at the same time, building nuclear power plants starting NOW and cutting down the insane regulations that waste over a decade just to get a permit to build one.
We are no longer in a period in history where we can waste time just arguing whether a bird will have to move, or if it will take ten years to produce oil. The main reason it will take ten years is because of all the bureaucratic stupidity that halts the entrepreneurial spirit of our Nation. We need to start now.
Our Nation has the second highest capital gains tax in the planet, second only to Japan. It is no wonder that our entrepreneurs send jobs overseas, where they pay less taxes and can actually make more money. This math is so easy a high school kid, if properly explained, would understand. Our politicians however, seem to have suffered brain damage, since they cannot seem to comprehend that if I have to pay over 50% of my income in taxes here in the States, and only 25% somewhere else, I will go somewhere else.
What is so hard to understand?
If the bottom 50% of the population pays only 3% of the total taxes paid at a 2.98%, why is Obama promising 95% of the population a tax reduction? The bottom 50% pays almost no taxes at all, why do they need a tax break? That does not make any sense.
Why would I want my taxes to go pay for services to someone who was told by her lawyers not to work, so she would not have to pay child support?
Why would I want my taxes to go to pay someone’s college tuition at the local junior college, if that person refuses to work 40 hours per week because doing so, will give her more money and reduce the amount of welfare she receives.
These case, I know of personally, and I am sure you know a few more yourself.
Let’s start promoting the traditional American work ethics. Stop allowing freeloaders to live of the charity of the taxpayer. I do understand that a certain segment of the population needs our help and they should receive it. But lets stop the abuse.
Let’s vote the crooked politicians out of Congress and the Senate. Yes, that means firing Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, et al.
And lets give tax breaks to entrepreneurs who will help rebuild our economy.
Lets start fresh.
