In what can be considered as shooting himself in the foot... the founder of an Islamic Television Station in New York, confessed to beheading his wife.
Muzzammil Hassan founded the television station after the September 11 attacks in order to counter the usual stereotypes against the Muslim faith and it's practitioners.
She filed for divorce and the Police had being called several times to their home on allegations of domestic violence.
I do not want to use a tragedy for gain, but the question here is: If you are trying to clear stereotypes, why behave in a manner that only serves to preserve those ideas you are trying to counter?
The main stereotypes that come to mind when the Muslim faith is regarded are:

Women do not have equal rights and their lives are constantly in danger of overzealous males that think nothing of chopping hands, feet, or even beheading them for trivial and senseless transgressions.

The Muslim faith teaches that is OK to lie to none Muslims, thus rendering almost anything they tell you irrelevant.

The fundamentalist Muslims believe that if you do not convert to their faith, you do not have the right to exist, so, you should be killed.

Israel should not exist since they are less than monkeys and rats, and as so, they should be exterminated.

Killing those who don't belief in Islam is honorable.
So far, I tend to see that a small minority of practitioners of Islam hold these skewed beliefs. But, when Islam boasts of having millions of practitioners, even a tiny fraction of those, is dangerous.
